If you are approaching 30 or already a bit past it, this guide is for you. We will be taking a look at the ten things you’ll want to stop right now. Bad habits can ruin your life as you get older.

Your thirties are a time in your life when you may get to enjoy life a bit more. Some may have already settled down with a family. Others may still be looking for their purpose in life.

No matter where you are, it’s important that you take a step in the right direction. Especially when it comes to positive habits. Let’s get right to it and go to the first thing you need to get rid of now.

Partying in excess

If this doesn’t apply to you, you can skip this part. Yet, there is no shame in having a good time. Doing it in excess can lead to bad habits such as alcohol or drug use.

If you or someone you know needs help in kicking their alcohol or drug addiction, a detox service provided by Ascendant New York will assist them. Your thirties may be a decade where you may be doing less of partying and more on focusing on where you want to go in life.

Eating a poor diet

A poor diet can lead to weight gain. Even to the point where you may be overweight or even obese. As you get older, it will be more of a challenge to lose weight.

With that in mind, consider switching up your diet. Instead of junk food, make it healthier. Eat more fruits and veggies.

Eat something that’s high in protein. Focus on your vitamins and minerals. A healthy diet will pay off big time over the course of your life.

Strong bones into your senior years? That’s possible if you start now with a healthy diet. It may be a process, but you can trust in it.

Being sedentary

We get it. A weekend Netflix binge is nice and all. Yet, sitting all day without doing any kind of moving around can be a problem.

A sedentary lifestyle can lead to health issues such as diabetes and heart disease. That’s just a sample list of the health issues. If you are working a desk job, make it a point to move around every hour for about 15 minutes.

Long periods of sitting can be harmful and you may not know it. If you are in motion on a regular basis, you can ward off the issues that may stem from it. Even if it’s your weekend off from work, move around and enjoy yourself outside.

Stressing out

Stress is a part of life. You may have your bad days and you just don’t want to do anything. However, stressing out on a regular basis can be a major problem.

One of the things you’ll want to do is practice mindfulness. This can include breathing exercises where you spend a few minutes just clearing your head. You can also focus on your breath and become calmer and focused.

You can do this for as little as five minutes per day. It can be multiple sessions if needed. Stress can also cause various illnesses.

Do your physical and mental well-being a favor and do your best to stress less. Your body will thank you for it as you get older.

Ignoring what your body is telling you

If your body is not feeling its best, it may be telling you something. It’s a universal sign of ‘take care of yourself. It can also mean ‘see a doctor, something’s wrong’.

This will depend on the issue you may be having. No need to go into hypochondria mode or anything like that. Yet, if something’s been bothering you for days on end, you may want to see a doctor.

Some of the slightest things can turn into something serious. Especially if you are not taking notice of what’s going on.

Don’t stay up too late

Yes, staying up late may be the norm. If you are working night shifts, we understand. There is a time that you need to go to bed and get a good night’s rest.

Make sure you are getting at least 7 to 8 hours of sleep per night. It may also help if you get up early as well. For example, you can go to bed at 10pm and wake up every morning at 5am.

Getting up early in the morning may not be for everyone. Yet, there’s something about it that makes it worthwhile.

Surround yourself with negative people

Negative people can be so miserable, that their attitudes will spread to others. You don’t want that. You don’t want to get in the habit of thinking negative feelings or saying anything bad about yourself or someone.

You may need to make changes to your mental health. This includes surrounding yourself with people who are positive and upbeat. If you hang out with like-minded people, you may find yourself thinking and feeling the same way they are.

Cutting the sugary drinks

Sugary drinks can lead to tooth decay and a wide variety of issues. Especially if you are drinking them in excess. Instead, you can switch them out with water since it contains no sugar or any of that bad stuff.

Drink your coffee black. If you can’t shake soda, drink something that’s sugar-free. It’s that easy.

Snack too much

You may be feeling hungry. So a snack may be your best solution. It’s better to get rid of the snacks so you don’t risk gaining weight over time.

Go for something healthy if you need to snack on something to hold you over between meals. Celery or carrot sticks? Maybe apple slices are more of your speed?

Procrastinate and waste time

There are tasks that you need to do for the day. Sure, we can use a lazy day. However, it’s for one day out of the week only.

Otherwise, plan and prioritize the tasks you need to do for the day. It can be things to do at home or work. Time management is key, especially when you’re in your 30s.
