The interest rate for the year 2020–2022 is 8.15%. Union Labor Minister Bhupendra Yadav told media reports that interest has already been deposited in more than 24 crore accounts. It may take some time for the interest amount to appear in the accounts. EPFO invests the amount deposited in the PF account in many places. Account holders get a part of the earnings from this investment in the form of interest. About seven crore members of EPFO will benefit from this.

- EPFO last year reduced the interest rate for its subscribers to a four-decade low of 8.10 percent in 2020–2021 from 8.5 percent.
- The EPF interest rate was 8 per cent during 1977-78, when it was the lowest.
